Breakout 2.0: Students as Designers

Breakout boxes are all the rage. Teachers set them up as a way for students to explore and apply new knowledge as they solve the puzzles essential to the locks. However, there is much to be learned in setting up the activities and puzzles to be solved. In this session, the presenters will take the participants through their experience of flipping the activity so that students set up breakouts as a culminating unit activity. The presenters will brainstorm with participants other areas and ideas for having students create breakout activities and will help participants begin to set up the activity to guide students through the process of creating their own breakout box activities. Participants will leave the session with guidelines and ideas to facilitate students’ creation of their own breakouts.
