Future Ready: A Technovation Institute

Digital Citizenship skills are essential for our students to be Future Ready.  This session will help district leaders understand all that Digital Citizenship encompasses, and how it connects within the state and ISTE standards.  We will share district efforts and next steps to create a baseline Digital Citizenship course for all teachers which provides  training, resources and support as they move forward with implementing a robust Digital Citizenship program in their classrooms. Time will be provided for participants to share what is working well in their schools to model, teach and give students feedback on digital citizenship.

In this session participants will learn about the Digital Badge program in Aurora Public Schools--historical context leading to current practices while also discussing lessons learned along the way. Participants will learn why and how APS has connected badging to 21st Century Skill development through the exploration of specific student examples. Participants will have time to explore Credly, an online badging platform, and walk away a variety of tools and resources

Try out a sample PBL Unit while learning how classroom amplification can improve the learnering environment and open pathways to greater connectedness and educational success for everyone in the classroom. Many feel hearing better and clearly is a function of "louder" sound. But it's not, it's a function of "loud enough" AND "clear and intelligible" speech. They will learn how to fill every corner of the learning environment with clear and intelligible speech. Bonus: Gaining clarity and understanding of what true "PBL" is!

This panel discussion will examine the Digital Learning Coaches model that was employed at Air Academy High School, a BYOD high school, during the 2016-17 school year. Panelists will discuss the shared DLC model, the acquisition and use of flexible classroom spaces, and working with staff to increase transformational learning and provide coaching and just-in-time learning through our teacher Professional Learning after school “university” at AAHS.

While some schools are able to reach the ratio of one student per device, it isn't always the ideal environment in which to learn and it . 1:1 status can create expectations that students are always on devices or it can allow for huge numbers of devices to go unused in the carts around a school. In this session we will explore all of the different ways of leveraging a 1:1 ratio as well as moving beyond a simple ratio to discuss the relationship between a student and a device that is far more advantageous to blended and personalized learning.

How does device access (and usage) change the way we plan lessons to create more engaging learning tasks? How does it support and empower students? If we haven't answered these questions, why should we hold a 1:1 ratio up as the ideal? In this session we will interrogate the notion of 1:1 and explore alternative ways of supporting Blended and Personalized Learning in our schools.

Research from Project RED shows that a deliberate change management strategy is one of the most significant factors in determining the success of an initiative. Learn the specifics of a change management strategy successfully implemented in schools across the country and how deliberate planning, common language and clear criteria can have a transformative impact on technology integration.

We are inundated with tools to gather information. However, the sophistication to select and filter information has left us surrounded by similar information re-enforcing existing beliefs while stunting our ability to grow. Come learn how this happens, its impact on us and society as well as strategies to game those systems so we can become better informed individuals and citizens.
